fidelity-
woke up this morning to bing crosby's adeste fidelis, and started thinking about what it means to be faithful- to oneself, to others, to God.
fidelity is a daily choice. it is an affirmation that you believe in something bigger than yourself. it is how you keep a larger world view. if you are only faithful to yourself and your worldview, then the universe becomes a very small, selfish place. however, if you are willing to be faithful to others, even when they disappoint, a gift begins to reveal itself. what one begins to see is the beauty in being fully connected to others, even when it is painful. often, after going through disappointment, the resulting joy surpasses what one thought was possible.
as for fidelity to God, belief in what cannot be seen with the eye or touched with the hands, is to open oneself to the beauty and the mystery of the universe.
in the end, faithfulness takes an enormous risk. one that brings beautiful rewards.
today i am thankful for the people who show fidelity to me. this cannot always be easy- as I am sure i try patience. i am reflecting on the faith i show in others. do i let the people closest to me know that i trust them?
